Karnataka Forests and Environment Minister B Ramanath Raitoday alleged that a BJP leader was behind the murder of twoconvicts in the district sub-jail here on October 28 lastyear.
Addressing reporters after releasing the supplementarymanifesto of the party here, he alleged that a former BJPgram panchayat president from Bantwal in the district hadsupplied weapons to the jail inmates to execute the murder.
Madoor Isubu and Ganesh Shetty, who were arrested five years ago in connection with different criminal cases, were hacked to death using lethal weapons during a clash inside the jail.
Ahead of the local body polls scheduled for February 20, Rai accused BJP leaders of fomenting rift between communities and said the twin murder in the prison spoke volumes about theBJP's communal policy.
Meanwhile, he denied allegations that some Congress leadersfrom the district were colluding with the sand mafia.
BJPleader and former minister Krishna J Palemar had alleged thatassociates of some Congress ministers from Dakshina Kannada, including the district in-charge minister, were involved inillegal sand mining in the district.
Talking about the coming polls, Rai expressed confidence that the Congress was set toregister a comprehensive victory in the polls as theBJP had miserably failed to deliver goods.
