Raids in Kashmir Valley to check spurious pesticides

The Agriculture department in Kashmir has intensified its campaign against dealers selling spurious pesticides and seized large quantity of contraband pesticides during raids at various places today.
"Continuing the campaign to check sale and distribution of spurious pesticides, fertilisers and seeds among the farming community, a team of officers of Law Enforcement Wing of Agriculture department raided various godowns of pesticides dealers of Srinagar, Pulwama and Shopian districts," an official spokesman.
In this connection, a godown of M/S Kashmir Pesticides was raided at Batamaloo here for importing pesticides without registration from the licensing authority.
A large quantity of pesticides imported illegally have been seized, the spokesman said.
"The enforcement agency has been put on alert to keep a vigil on distribution of various products marketed by the Mahindra and Mahindra limited," he said.
The team also put a stop on sale of pesticides marketed by a company in south Kashmir's Pulwama and Shopian districts, he added.
Such inspections and raids will continue in coming days in other districts of Kashmir Valley also and licensed dealers are advised to put on sale only registered licensed products, the spokesman said.
