Rail earnings up by over 12%

It had earned Rs 1,01,856.45 crore during the same period in the previous year

Indian Railways earned about Rs 1.1 lakh-crore during April-December, an increase of 12.6 per cent. It had earned about Rs 1 lakh-crore during the corresponding period last year.

Total earnings from goods during April-December was Rs 77,161 crore, against Rs 68,776 crore in the corresponding period in 2013, an increase of 12.2 per cent. The earnings from passengers during this period were Rs 31,955 crore, against Rs 27,646 crore during the corresponding period in 2013, registering an increase of 15.6 per cent.

The total number of passengers booked during April- December 2014 were 6,256.2 million, compared with 6,360.1 million during the corresponding period in 2013, showing a decrease of about 1.6 per cent.     The decline in passenger bookings is recorded in both the suburban and non-suburban sectors during this period.  In the suburban sector, the number of passengers booked were 3,409.6 million, against 3,416.0 million during the corresponding period last year, a decrease of 0.2 per cent. There were 2,846.5 million passengers booked in the non-suburban trains compared to 2,944.1 million in the corresponding period in 2013.
