Shambhu Singh, 32, who worked as a contractual attendant, was caught at New Delhi Railway Station with Rs 11,94,050 lakh in cash, including Rs 11.50 lakh in new Rs 2,000 banknotes, Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer R S Singh said.
Shambhu, a resident of Allahabad, was spotted carrying a bag in a suspicious manner by RPF constable Atar Singh near the gate on platform number 1 around 12.30 pm, he said.
When the constable confronted him, Shambhu got nervous. Later, sub-inspector Ram Naresh reached there and Shambhu was brought to the RPF post.
"During questioning, Shambhu claimed that the bag was given to him by one Rinku in Allahabad. He was instructed to hand it over to a trader, Vijender, in Karol Bagh and was paid Rs 600 for the delivery," the officer said.
The I-T department was informed about the recovery of the notes and Shambhu was handed over to them, he added.
