Railway engineers stage protest over pay-grade related demands

Junior engineers (JEs) and senior sections engineers (SSEs) of the Railways here and at other zonal, divisional and rail coach factories in the country today staged a protest to press demand for group B status.
"The protest had been organised under the banner of All India Railway Engineers Federation (AIREF) at all zonal and divisional offices in country and a memorandum addressed to the Railway Minister and the Railway Board Chairman was submitted," the national organisation secretary of AIREF V K Badgaiya told PTI.
The engineers are upset over the seventh pay commission, which did not grant them group B status despite a notification by the Department of Personnel and Training that Railway JEs and SSEs be treated at par with their counterparts in other Central government departments.

"We have also demanded Rs 5400 grade pay to JE and Rs 6600 to SSE," he said.
