Railways have earned Rs 24,541.96 crore from freight traffic during April-June 2014 as compared to Rs 22,795.55 cr during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 7.66 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.
The national transporter carried 267.68 million tonnes (MT) of freight during April-June 2014 as compared to 256.79 MT carried during the same period last year, registering an increase of 4.24 per cent.
It earned Rs 8136.70 crore from freight traffic during June 2014 out of which Rs 3533.04 crore came from carriage of 41.57 MT of coal, followed by Rs 700.40 cr from 9.91 MT of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic users.
It earned Rs 113.41 cr by carrying 1.22 MT of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 373.96 cr from 3.96 MT by container service and Rs 540.18 cr from 5.92 MT of other goods.
