Establishing all-weather connectivity through rail network with Kashmir from Jammu region over the Pir Panjal mountain range will be showcased by railways at the Republic Day parade this year.
The colourful tableau depicting the culture, art and crafts and music of the Valley will roll down the Rajpath on January 26.
The 18-km-long rail route, which includes an 11km-long tunnel between Banihal in Jammu and Qazigund in Kashmir, was made operational in June last year by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
It is the longest rail tunnel which provides an all-weather surface link to the Valley which is often cut off from the rest of the country due to snowfall during winters.
Train service is already operational within Kashmir Valley in the 118-km-long route between Qazigund and Baramulla in north Kashmir.
The AC double decker train was showcased by railways last year.
