It has come to notice that some unscrupulous elements have cheated and defrauded unemployed youth by making false promises of providing jobs in Indian Railways, the ministry said in a statement.
There are cases of forged documents like employment letters and extracted huge sums of money from the unsuspecting youth.
"Criminal action is being taken in this regard by the Ministry," it said.
Recruitment process for various posts in the Railways is done through the Railway Recruitment Board (RRBs), Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs) and Railway Protection Force (RPF).

According to the Railways, all vacancies are widely advertised in all leading national and local newspapers including the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar.
Besides, the vacancies are also put on the official website of all RRBs and RRCs.
In the current railway examination system, there is no human intervention in the entire process as it includes written examination and the answer sheets are evaluated through computers.
It said, the fees for recruitment examinations is only Rs 100 and no other money is required to be paid to anyone. Results of the examinations are put up on official websites of RRBs and RRCs.
