It has carried out an experiment at platforms of Moradabad station in which hydrant control valves with detachable handles were installed so that only authorised railway staff could open and close the valves.
The experiment has benefited the Moradabad Division in saving a considerably amount of water. Railways are planning to replicate it in other stations as well, said a senior Ministry official.
Railways face problems of unauthorised use of water hydrants located at stations. These are prone to misuse by miscreants, outsiders and trespassers who often leave the large taps open leading to a lot of wastage of water and consequent shortage in water pressure.
