Passenger coaches with automatic door closure facilities are proposed to be commissioned on an experimental basis in trains, the Railways today told the Madras High Court.
The coaches with automatic door closure for conventional trains had been developed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and they would be initially commissioned on an experimental basis, Railways told the court.
Making the submission during the hearing on a PIL seeking steps to control travel by foot-board in trains, especially by students, by implementing suitable measures like closing of doors, it further said the Kapurthala Coach Factory was in the process of developing a similar model.
Counsel for Railways P T Ramkumar also pointed out that a similar plea was dealt with by the Allahabad High Court in November 2010. It had observed that the court could notget into such an aspect, though the problem existed.
It was for theRailways to consider bringing appropriate measures for automaticclosure of doors, the court had said, he said.
Recording the submission, a bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan said it was in agreement with the view of the Allahabad High Court on the matter.
Disposing of the PIL, the bench said "we also suggest, possibly the Railway Protection Force would assist in controlling this problem.
"We are in agreement with the view of the Allahabad High Court that it is neither practicable nor feasible for the Court to get into these administrative issues and the solutions have to be found by the Railway authorities," the bench said in its order.
