Many places in Punjab and Haryana received rain on Sunday, ending a prolonged period of dry spell in the two states.
The Meteorological Department here said places like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Adampur, Halwara, Bathinda, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hisar, Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad and Bhiwani received rainfall.
In a respite to the people from the biting cold weather conditions, the minimum temperatures rose above normal limits.
Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a low of 10.7 degrees Celsius, up five notches against normal.
In Punjab, Ludhiana recorded a low of 10.1 degrees Celsius, up five notches above normal while Patiala's low settled at 9.8 degrees Celsius, three more than normal.
Amritsar registered a low of 6.4 degrees Celsius, up three points.
Pathankot (10.1 deg C), Adampur (9.6 deg C), Halwara (10.8 deg C) and Faridkot (7.5 deg C) also recorded above normal minimums.
Karnal in Haryana recorded a low of 10.4 degrees Celsius, up three notches, Narnaul recorded a low of 9 degrees Celsius, up four notches while Rohtak's the minimum settled at 8.8 degrees Celsius, up two degrees against normal.
Ambala registered a low of 10.7 degrees Celsius, up five notches while Hisar's minimum settle at 8.1 degrees Celsius, a notch more than normal.
