Rain claims 13 lives in North, many rivers cross danger mark

Incessant rains claimed 10 lives in parts of Uttarakhand today, while 38 people were reported to be missing. The state government has sought the help of the army.

In Himachal Pradesh, one person was killed and several vital bridges and large stretches of roads were washed away in flash floods caused by heavy rains in Kullu district.

Water levels in Chenab, Tawi, Ujh and Basantar rivers in Jammu and Kashmir are nearing the danger mark as the overnight incessant rains lashed wide parts of Kashmir Valley.

Meanwhile, a flash flood alert has been sounded in Jammu region.

In Uttar Pradesh, two children drowned in swollen Ghaghra river in Azamgarh.

Saryu and Ghaghra rivers in the state were maintaining a rising trend. During the last two days, dozens of houses in several villages of Barabanki and Faizabad district have been reported to be washed away.
