Malkangiri was the hottest place in the state recording a high of 43.4 degrees Celsius followed by Bhawanipatna 43 degrees Celsius, Sonepur 42.7 degrees Celsius, Bolangir 42 degrees Celsius and Titlagarh 41.5 degrees Celsius.
Both Jharsuguda and Sundergarh recorded 41 degrees Celsius, the MeT office stated.
Seven places in the the state recorded maximum temperature above 40 degree Celsius while several areas in the coastal region experienced high humidity.
The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar was recorded at 38.6 degrees Celsius with 95 per cent humidity, while Cuttack recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius.
The death toll due to sunstroke in the state remained at 20, the special relief commissioner's office said.
