Rain lashes parts of Punjab,Haryana; cold conditions revive

Cold conditions revived in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with minimum temperatures dropping sharply by upto five degrees below normal limits at a few places in view of widespread overnight rainfall in the region.
The mercury hovered between one to five degrees Celsius below normal limits in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, the MeT officials said here.
Some parts of the region, including Chandigarh (2.7 mm), Bhiwani (8.8 mm), Hisar (12.6 mm), and Patiala (0.4 mm) were drenched by rainfall in the night, bringing the mercury levels down.
In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar was the coldest with a low of 5.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.
While Ludhiana settled at a low of 6.9 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal, the minimum temperature at Hisar was recorded at 8.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.
Among other places, Narnaul had a low of 9 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal followed by 9.1 degrees Celsius at Patiala, two notches below normal, 9.8 degrees Celsius at Karnal, three notches below normal, 10.1 degrees Celsius at Chandigarh, two notches below normal and 11.5 degrees Celsius at Ambala, one notch below normal, the MeT office said.
The rain waters inundated certain low lying areas in the region besides disrupting power supply at a few places during night, officials said.
The MeT department has predicted rise in minimum temperatures in the region in days ahead.
