Rain lashes UP; major rivers cross danger mark

With Southwest monsoon remaining normal leading to moderate to heavy rains accompanied by thundershowers at many places in Uttar Pradesh, major rivers have crossed the danger mark in the state.
According to Flood control office here, river Sharda, though static now, was flowing above the danger mark at Palia Kalan and Ramganga has also crossed the red mark at Moradabad.
Ghaghra has crossed the danger mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki and was rising at Ayodhya and Turtipar (Ballia), it said.
According to MeT office, heavy rains accompanied by thundershowers occurred at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh.
Chief amount of rainfall recorded in cms: Bani-10, Katerniaghat, Kanpur, Kaiserganj-9 each, Nawabganj-7, Rath, Sardanagar-5 each, Harriya, Gonda, Varanasi-4 each, Ghazipur, Lucknow, Neemsar-3 each, Barabanki, Basti, Bansgaon, Jaunpur, Mahoba, Orai, Badaun, Churk and Lakhimur Kheri-2 each, it said.
MeT office, in a forecast, said rains or thundershowers may occur at many or few places over east and west Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
