Rain likely to play spoilsport on Diwali, Kali Puja

Moderate to heavy rain in the city and other parts of Gangetic West Bengal is likely to dampen the festive spirit on Diwali, which coincides with Kali Puja in the state.
The city is likely to be hit by moderate rain for two days till Saturday, the regional Met office said here today.
"Moderate to heavy rain at isolated places in Gangetic West Bengal is likely till Saturday morning as an effect of a well-marked low pressure in west-central Bay of Bengal, which is likely to concentrate into a depression," regional Met director G K Das said here today.
Heavy rain is likely to commence in the coastal areas of West Bengal from tomorrow morning.

The system is expected to move northnorthwestwards and reach Odishanorth Andhra Pradesh coasts by tomorrow evening and then move towards Gangetic West Bengal, Das said.
Squally winds with speeds reaching up to 40 to 50 km per hour is likely off north OdishaWest Bengal coasts, the weather office said.

Fishermen have been advised to not venture into the sea off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.
As an effect of the likely inclement weather in the southern parts of the state, Diwali celebrations could take a hit.
Kali Puja will also be celebrated tomorrow all over the state. A large number of community pujas are held in many parts of south Bengal, with the major attractions being at Barasat and Naihati in North 24 Parganas district.
