Rain washes out play in 4 matches in Buchi Babu tourney

Seasonal rains played havoc as four of the five matches were called off without a ball is being bowled on the first day of the Buchi Babu cricket tournament at different venues, here today.
In the lone match, where some play was possible, Uttar Pradesh scored 50 for four in 47 overs against Tamil Nadu XI on a heavy outfield.
Indian Off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the main strike for the hosts as he claimed three for 35. When day's play was called off a 5.28pm, Akshadeep Nath (15) and Praveek Kumar (4) were at the crease.
Earlier, opener Tanmay Srivastsava (25), Mukul Dagar (38 red.Hurt) and Prashant Gupta (29) chipped in with valuable scores for Uttar Pradesh.
In the other matches -- defending champions Kaanata vs Bengal, Hyderabad vs Haryana, Assam vs TNCA President XI and Baroda vs Kerala -- play was called off at different times after three mandatory inspections by respective Umpires.
