Rainfall in eastern Rajasthan, heat persists in western parts

After remaining inactive for nearly a week, South-West monsoon picked up momentum in eastern Rajasthan, even as the mercury continued to hover over 40 degrees Celsius in western parts of the state.
Baresar in Chittorgarh district recorded the maximum rainfall of 10 cm till this morning, the MeT department said.
In total, Chittorgarh, Sikar, Jaipur, Tonk, Hanumangarh and Kota districts recorded rainfall ranging between 40 to 76 mm till this morning, it said.
After a hot and humid weather during the day, capital Jaipur receive some showers late in the evening.
The western region, however, continued to remain in the grip of sweltering heat, where Sriganganagar was the hottest place with 43.8 degrees Celsius.
Mercury settled between 40 and 43 degrees at many places in western Rajasthan.
Met department says while monsoon may further pick up pace in eastern parts of the state in the next 24 hours, the western region may have to wait for some more time.
