Maximum temperature in the day stood at 43.2 degree Celsius, three notches above normal and a humidity of 92 per cent left people sweating.
The temperature, however, came down in the evening as overcast conditions coupled with strong winds preceded rains in many parts of the capital.
According to MeT department, the national capital received a total of 14.6 mm rain till 5:30 PM.
The unexpected rains caught those heading home from office unaware and slowed down traffic.
