Rains claimed 50 lives, damaged crops worth Rs 2.5K Cr:UP Govt
Press Trust of India Lucknow Recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms affected 58 districts in Uttar Pradesh, causing loss of 50 human lives and damaging crops worth about Rs 2,500 crore, an official spokesperson said today.
The spokesperson said as per earlier norms, which recognised an area hit by rain and hailstorm if there is a 50 per cent crop damage, 44 district qualified as "affected".
However, with the new norm of 33 per cent crop damage, 14 more districts have fallen into the category of "affected" districts, he said. Thus the total number of affected districts in UP is 58.
According to the central government rates and norms, the losses of crops is worth over Rs 2,500 crore, he said.
A total of 50 human lives have been lost in the rains and hailstorm, the spokesman said, adding till date Rs 401.35 crore has been distributed among 9.45 lakh farmers in the affected districts.
