Rains continue to lash UP; many rivers in spate

Heavy rain and thundershowers today occurred at many places in Uttar Pradesh where major rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
Ganga, which is flowing above the danger level at Ballia, was rising all through its course from Kannauj to Ballia, said Central Water Commission officials here.
Yamuna has crossed the danger mark at Prayag Ghat (Mathura), Auraiya, Kalpi, Hamirpur and Chilla Ghat (Banda). Betwa has also crossed the red mark at Sahijana in Hamirpur.
Sharda at Palia Kalan and Ghaghra at Elgin Bridge, Ayodhya and Turtipar were flowing above the danger level and Ram Ganga at Moradabad and Dabri (Shahjahapur) and Rapti at Shrawasti, Balrampur, Bansi and Gorakhpur were flowing close to the red mark, the officials said.
Meanwhile, Basti and Regoli recorded 7 cm rainfall each, Phoolpur, Churk and Robertganj 6 cm each and Amethi 3 cm.
