Rains in many parts, blistering heat continues in Odisha

Many states received pre-monsoon rains today that brought some respite from the gruelling heat, even as Odisha continued to sizzle with Angul registering a maximum of 44.1 degrees Celsius.
Rains lashed the national capital following which the maximum temperature settled at 34.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius.
The Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered official for Delhi, recorded 11.8 mm rains.
Light to moderate rains occurred at a few places in Haryana and Punjab today, bringing respite from sweltering heat.
Mohali, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Ropar and Hoshiarpur in Punjab were among the places which received intermittent rains.
Haryana's Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Kalka and Ambala also received rains.

Rains and overcast conditions, caused by a western disturbance, brought down the mercury in Rajasthan.
Jaipur recorded 21 mm rainfall, while Pilani, Churu and Kota received 5.4 mm, 3.2 mm and 0.8 mm of rains respectively.
Since yesterday, various places in eastern Rajasthan recorded light to moderate rainfall. Though most of the western Rajasthan remained dry, a few places in Hanumangarh and Churu district received rainfall.
Jaisalmer was hottest at 43.9 degrees Celsius followed by 43 degrees Celsius in Barmer, 42 degrees Celsius in Jodhpur and 41.4 degrees Celsius in both Kota and Bikaner.
Maximum temperatures dropped by five to six degrees across Himachal Pradesh as rain and hailstorm occurred in some parts of the state, including its capital Shimla.
Sri Nainadevi in Bilaspur district was the wettest in the state with 60 mm rains, while Dharampur received 52 mm rains, followed by Banjar and Mandi both 47 mm, and Shimla 16 mm rainfall.
Una recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius while the mercury dropped by five degrees to stay at 29.4 degrees Celsius in Dharamsala.
Heavy showers and gusty winds triggered by Cyclone 'Mora' lashed Mizoram disrupting power and telecommunication network, damaging houses and triggering landslides.
Light to moderate rains brought down temperature in Bihar. Patna and Gaya received 0.7 mm and 3.8 mm rains respectively.
The maximum temperature in Patna was 36.2 degrees Celsius while it was 38.6 degrees Celsius in Gaya.
However, blistering heat persisted in most parts of Odisha today with Angul being the hottest place in the state at 44.1 degrees Celsius.
The mercury breached the 40-degree mark in at least 10 places of the state.
Closely following Angul was Titlagarh in western Odisha which recorded a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius.
The Southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala bringing rains to the state, Lakshadweep and Coastal Karnataka.
Pre-monsoon showers lashed Goa, causing water-logging in many low-lying areas and stopping of beach tourism activities in the state. Rains will continue for the next two days hours, the local MeT office has said.
Day temperatures were above normal in Saurashtra and Kutch region, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
