Rains lash Delhi; traffic, waterlogging woes for residents

Monsoon rains drenched the national capital again today keeping the mercury at a comfortable level, even as traffic snarls and waterlogging woes brought discomfort to the citizens.
The maximum temperature settled at 32.1 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal.
The Safdarjung observatory, considered the official figure for the city recorded 6.2 mm rainfall between 8.30 AM and 5.30 PM today while areas under Ridge, Lodhi Road, Palam and Ayanagar observatories received 31.6 mm, 3.1 mm, 8.6 mm and 55.4 mm rainfall respectively during the period.
Over 30 cases of waterlogging were reported in areas falling under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the civic body said.
Residents in parts of Amar Colony, Rajendra Park in Narela Zone; Jama Masjid in City Zone; Patel Nagar and Anand Parbat in Karol Bagh Zone; Swaroop Nagar and Pitam Pura in Civil Lines Zone; and Nagloi, Mangolpuri and Sultanpuri in Rohini Zone, faced woes due to waterlogging.
Areas in south Delhi like Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, and parts of east Delhi also faced waterlogging issues.

Traffic jams were witnessed in several parts of the city including major intersections such as ITO, Kashmere Gate, South Extension, Laxmi Nagar, Ashram Chowk, Moolchand underpass, Dhaula Kuan, Azad Market, Gurudwara Nanakpura, Badarpur, Apsara Border, Yamuna Vihar, Okhla mandi, Uttamnagar, Rajouri Chowk and Nehru Place.
The humidity in air oscillated between 79 per cent and 95 per cent.
"The skies would be generally cloudy. Moderate rain and thundershower would occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 31 and 26 degrees tomorrow," the weatherman said.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.9 degrees Celsius while the minimum had settled at 25.5 degrees.
