Rains lash Mumbai, Konkan region; normalcy returns in Raj

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and Konkan region of Maharashtra affecting normal life, even as normalcy returned in the eastern parts of Rajasthan which were badly affected by heavy showers for the past few days.
In Arunachal Pradesh, incessant rains in the last couple of days have thrown life out of gear at Namsai district as Noa Dihing river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger mark leading to submerging of low lying areas, officials said.
Southwest monsoon remained active over parts of Uttar Pradesh as light to moderate rains and thundershowers occurred in many places. The MeT department has forecast rain and thundershowers in eastern part of the state tomorrow.
In Rajasthan, there were no rains since yesterday in Karauli, Dholpur, Bharatpur and nearby regions.
The monsoon has weakened since yesterday and is likely to revive after five to six days, Director of MeT department in Jaipur, A K Srivastava, said.
However, some places in Jaipur division recorded heavy rains till this morning, the weatherman said.

In the national capital, hot and humid conditions prevailed as maximum temperature settled at 35.8 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal. Safdarjung observatory, recorded 21 mm rains till 8.30 AM, but none after that.
Intermittent heavy rains affected normal life in Mumbai. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada regions witnessed mild rainfall since yesterday, while Konkan region received good downpour. Tulsi lake in suburban Powai has started overflowing this morning.
In Assam, helicopters and boats have been pressed into service to rescue people as about 1.57 lakh people are affected by floods.
Brahmaputra is flowing above danger mark in Jorhat, Dhubri, Golaghat and Sonitpur districts, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) officials said, adding over 13,635 hectares of agricultural land are under water.
Bihar received moderate rainfall in most places, with Patna and Purnea registering 31.2 mm and 38.4 mm rains since yesterday.
Rains lashed a few places of Haryana and Punjab while the maximum temperature hovered near normal level in several parts of both the states.
In Haryana, Ambala and Hisar received 2.1 mm and 23 mm rainfall respectively, while in Punjab, Ludhiana received rainfall of 3 mm. The MeT department has forecast more rains in the two states over the next few days.
In West Bengal, the sub-Himalayan districts were lashed by heavy rainfall, with Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling receiving 80.7 mm and 40 mm rains respectively since yesterday.
