India providing much needed relief to people across the region who had been reeling under a severe heat wave for the last over one month.
The capital Delhi received the first pre-monsoon showers leading to temperatures dropping by at least three notches from yesterday.
While the maximum temperatures was recorded at 38.4 degrees celsius, the minimum was 29.1 degrees.
Widespread pre-monsoon showers lashed most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, bringing down the mercury and raising humidity levels in the region.
The rains brought the maximum temperature down by upto three points in most parts of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh and its surrounding areas were also lashed by heavy rains.
The rain water inundated a few low-lying areas in the region.

Monsoons were active over parts of eastern UP and further advanced to some more areas in the western districts of Uttar Pradesh since yesterday.
Met office said that conditions were favourable for the monsoon to reach the remaining parts of UP during the next two-three days.
The Met office has forecast that rain or thundershowers would occur at many places in the state with a warning of heavy rainfall at one or two places. MORE
