Rains lash north India, J&K sees worst floods in six decades

Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of North India including Jammu and Kashmir which is battling the worst floods in nearly six decades that have left 48 people dead so far including 28 today.
Delhi also witnessed another rainy day as the national capital recorded showers measuring 6.2 mm which kept the mercury below normal levels.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.3 degrees Celsius, which was four notches below normal, while the minimum settled a notch below normal at 25.1 degrees Celsius.
The rainfall pushed humidity levels upwards, oscillating between 74 and 92 per cent.
Incessant rains in Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday have worsened the flood situation, leaving 48 people dead till now and disrupting normal life. The deluge has wreaked havoc, damaging roads, dozens of bridges and buildings and crops.

Jhelum in Srinagar was flowing at 22.40 feet, 4.40 feet above danger mark, as many areas in the summer capital of the state have been submerged. Many other streams in the state too have swollen and inundated most areas, officials said.

19 deaths were reported from Jammu, including 10 in a house collapse incident in Rajouri, apart from recovery of five bodies from yesterday's bus mishap in which 50 members of marriage party were washed away in Rajouri district. Four people were washed away in Kashmir.
As many as 1,100 people were rescued from flash-floods in various areas by teams of Army and IAF, taking the total number of the rescued persons since yesterday to 1350. A total of 2,500 people have rescued in the state so far.

Schools and colleges across the state have been closed till Monday while universities in Kashmir have suspended all work for two days.
