Rains lash parts of N India, temperatures hover around normal

Rains lashed parts of north India including Rajasthan today, even as the weather improved in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir paving the way for civil and military rescue teams to reach thousands of stranded people.
Day temperatures across the northern region hovered around normal levels, though extreme humid conditions caused discomfort to Delhiites.
The maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 36 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while the minimum was a notch above normal at 26.6 degrees.
A spell of scattered rainfall in the afternoon brought some relief from the sultry weather.
Rainfall recorded at Safdarjung observatory was 1.1-mm, the Lodhi Road observatory 1.8-mm, and Ayanagar 29.8-mm. Humidity level in the capital oscillated between 87 and 62 per cent during the day, according to the MeT office.
Rains have stopped in Jammu and Kashmir, where the death toll in resultant floods was reported to be over 200, following which civil and military rescue teams fanned out to reach lakhs of stranded people.

Meanwhile, heavy showers affected normal life and vehicular traffic in several areas of Udaipur, Jaipur and Jodhpur divisions of Rajasthan.
Mavali and Raniwada recorded the state's maximum rainfall at 11-cm each since last night, according to a MeT report.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places in Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions. Several other areas of the state, including state capital Jaipur, received rainfall.
In Punjab and Haryana, the mercury stayed close to normal level after rains lashed most parts of the state in the past few days.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded maximum temperature at 34.2 degrees Celsius. Ambala in Haryana recorded a maximum of 32.6 degrees after rains lashed the town, while Hisar's high settled at 34.3 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded maximums of 32.6 and 33.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. Patiala registered a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius.
