Raise awareness about Right to Public Service Act: Nitish to

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today directed officials to carry out an "intensive campaign" to raise awareness about the Right to Public Services Act.
Addressing a meeting here, where development works in Bhagalpur and Banka districts were reviewed, Kumar lamented that there was very little public awareness regarding the Act.
"People still rush to MPs, MLAs and MLCs for getting work done despite the fact that in the Act the state has provided its citizens with the legal right to demand delivery of services within a stipulated time frame", an official release quoted the Chief Minister as saying.
Kumar also gave a stern warning to government officials who adopted a casual approach towards the Act and the rights given to the people therein and said such personnel would be awarded "compulsory retirement" as a punitive measure.

The Chief Minister also gave instructions to officials for taking up rainwater harvesting in a big way in districts like Banka where water table was steadily declining.
He also ordered speedy construction of toilets under the "har ghar shauchalay" (a toilet in every house) scheme and to quicken the process of paddy procurement.
Others who attended the meeting included state water resources minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh besides MLAs and MLCs from the two districts.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a lounge at the Bhagalpur airport, constructed by the state building construction corporation at a cost of Rs 32.73 lakh, the release said.
