Raj govt asks banks not to allow Binani Cement to withdraw

Rajasthan government has issued notices to banks having accounts of Binani Cements asking them to not allow the company to withdraw money, as a tax of over Rs 185 crore is due on the company, according to sources.
The notice for seeking information about bank accounts were issued to all the banks on February 7 and 8 under Rajasthan VAT Act by the state's Commercial Tax Department, an official said today.
"We have got information about 15 accounts with various banks in differnet districts. The notice were issued for the recovery of tax Rs 185.74 crore due on Binani cement company. With this, the company will not be able to withdraw money.
"The payment from the banks will be made to exchequer first and once the due tax is paid, the company can operate the accounts," the officer of the commercial tax department said.
Meanwhile, Binani Cement officials here could not be reached for comments.
He informed that till Saturday, the exchequer got payment of Rs 34 lakh out of the total due. The tax was due on the company from 2007 to 2011.
