Raj govt committed to quota for the poor: Minister

The Rajasthan government today sought to assure the state assembly that it is committed to provide reservation in state jobs and educational institutions to the people of economically backward classes.
In reply to the issue of reservation for the poor among upper caste by BSP MLA Manoj Kumar during Zero Hour, Parliamentary Affair Minister Rajendra Rathore said the state government is trying to remove statutory hurdles in providing reservation to unreserved categories of on basis of their economic status.
BJP senior legislator, Ghanshyam Tiwari also supported the issue saying that reservation on the basis of economic status is required for upliftment of the poor among the upper caste people.
The issue of reservation for the economically backward classes has figured twice in the House, said the minister recalling that a law was enacted by the House in 2008, but was subsequently scrapped by the court in 2010 with directions to do a thorough analysis of the issue.
He said the government in 2013 had set up Rajasthan State Backward Classes Commission under the chairmanship of Anoopchand Goyal and a sub-committee was also formed.
The state government has also passed an Act in 2015 and is corresponding with the Centre for its inclusion in Schedule 9 of the constitution to insulate it from court's scrutiny, he added.
