Raj govt directs officials to monitor malnutrition in Baran

Days after the issue of deaths due to malnutrition rocked the Rajasthan assembly, the state government has asked it officials to strictly monitor health programmes in Baran district which has come to national attention due to several hunger deaths over the last 12 years.
Rajasthan Health Minister Rajendra Rathore has directed officials to identify malnourished children and monitor the government programmes in the district.
Following the directions, two officers including Medical Director Dr B R Meena today left for Baran to take stock of the situation.
The health department has also accorded special training to 330 Asha Sehyogini and ANMs for screening of malnourished children in Baran, according to an spokesperson.
Principal Secretary Medical and Health Deepak Upreti also held a meeting in the secretariat to review arrangements about the treatment of malnourished children.
