Raj govt launches scheme to provide milk to school students

With an aim to improve health of school children, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today launched a scheme in the state to provide milk to the students of class 1 to 8.

Under the 'Annapurna milk distribution scheme', nearly 62 lakh students studying in government schools and madrassas will be benefitted with fresh and pure milk thrice in a week, Raje said.

"I am also a mother and I know the happiness in seeing the kids growing and being healthy," the chief minister said while launching the scheme in Dehmi Kalan.

The scheme is being implemented with a budget of Rs 218 crore. Nearly 5 lakh litres of milk will be served in schools, state school education minister Vasudev Devnani said.

About 150 ml milk will be served to students of class 1 to 5 and 200 ml milk will be given to students of class 6 to 8 immediately after the morning assembly, Devnani said.

She informed that officers have been asked to ensure that the scheme is implemented in an efficient manner.
