Raj govt's veterinary officer becomes CPCSEA member

The Centre has nominated Rajasthan government's veterinary officer Tapesh Mathur as a member of CPCSEA, an animal welfare division, for a period of two years.
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change nominated Mathur as the member in the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) for a two-year period, an official communication said here.
CPCSEA is established under chapter 4 section 15 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 which is duty bound to take all such measures to ensure that animals are not subjected to unnecessary pains or suffering before, during or after performance of experiments on them, Dr Mathur who is working in the Department of Animal Husbandry said in a statement here.
The committee's first meeting would be held on January 20 in Delhi, he said.
A Gazette notification in this regard was made by the ministry on December 23, 2015 and the committee is represented by one member from every state.
