Acceding to the demand of the Rajput community, the Rajasthan government today decided to recommend a CBI inquiry into gangster Anandpal Singh's encounter and the death of a person during a protest for a probe by the agency.
"In both the matters, the state government will recommend to the Centre an inquiry by the CBI," Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria told a press conference after meeting some Rajput community leaders here.
After the meeting, the Rajput community leaders said they have called-off their proposed state-wide rally on July 22, when BJP president Amit Shah visits Rajasthan.
The gangster was killed in a police encounter at Malasar in Churu district on June 24. His death triggered protests by the Rajput community to which he belonged. They demanded a CBI inquiry.
During one such 'Shradhanjali Rally' on July 12, a civilian, Surendra Singh, was killed, police had said.
The BJP government had earlier refused to recommend a CBI probe but changed its stance following today's meeting.
