Raj govt to take steps to provide relief from drought: Gehlot

Unfurling the national flag amid unprecedented security cover at Sawai Man Singh Stadium here on the occasion of Independence Day, the Chief Minister also expressed concern on the issues of terrorism and corruption.

"Drought-like situation was looming large over Rajasthan, where many things depend on monsoon, but in the last few days, good rainfall has improved situation in the state," he said.

"The government will assess the situation and where there is drought like situation all possible efforts will be made to provide relief," he said.

Gehlot said that issues of terrorism, naxalism and corruption were main challenges before the nation which needs to be tackled with collective efforts.

He also highlighted the initiatives and flagship programmes the state government introduced for the welfare of people.

The Chief Minister also gave away the President's Police Medal to two retired IPS officers -- Hari Ram Meena and Vijendra Jhala.

He also honoured 16 other policemen, including one IPS officer, with Police Medals for meritorious services.

Homeguards and Civil Defence Service Medals for outstanding contribution were given to six persons and 11 persons were awarded certificates of merit.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva in her address said that the government is committed to provide transparent and good governance for which several initiatives have been taken.

Several important decisions like Rajasthan Public serivce Delivery Guarantee Act, 2011, Right to Hearing Act, 2012, BPL Housing Scheme, free generic medicines scheme are some of them, she said.
