Rajasthan Forest and Environment Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar today had to apologise in the Assembly for failing to submit audit reports, since the 2001-2002 fiscal, to the House.
The minister was pulled up by Deputy Speaker Rao Rajendra Singh.
"It is a very serious negligence, and the Chair is now asking you (Khinvsar) that you better take some remedial measures or the Chair will be forced to take cognisance of the issue," Rao said.
The Deputy Speaker told the minister that the assembly had the constitutional right to severely punish the official concerned for evading information from the House.
The BJP's Deputy Chief Whip, Madan Rathore, tried to defend the state government but was cut short by Rao.
The Deputy Speaker said none of the members had noticed the anomaly. However, it was for the Chair to defend their rights and educate them.
The minister assured the House that the matter would be resolved.
"My sincere apologies, I will look into the matter and ensure it will never happen in future," he said.
