Rajasthan Health Minister Rajendra Rathore today suggested that people working at hotels and other places on national highways should be trained in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to give accident victims first-aid till medical help reaches them.
"People working at roadside hotels and other places on national highways should be trained in CPR so that accident victims can get first-aid till an ambulance or medical help reaches them," he said at a programme at Sawai Man Singh Medical (SMS) College here.
In the last three years, 30,528 people died after suffering head injuries in road accidents in Rajasthan and more than 5,000 neuro-surgeries take place at the SMS hospital annually, the minister said.
He also administered oath to hundreds of school children, scout and guides, nursing students and others to follow traffic rules and help accident victims.
"Children are the best brand ambassadors, they will follow the traffic rules and inspire their family member and others to do the same," Rathore said.
In his presentation at the training programme, Professor and Head of Department of Neurosurgery at AIIMS, New Delhi, B S Sharma said, "The best treatment to head injury was prevention. Every year there are around 20 lakh head injuries and one lakh deaths.
