The mortal remains of CRPF jawan Shankar Lal Barala, killed in a terrorist attack in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar in Kashmir, were consigned to flames at his native Tejpura village in Rajasthan today.
Barala, posted in 23rd Batallion of the paramilitary force, was killed when militants fired upon at CRPF personnel guarding a checkpost yesterday. Two jawans were also injured in the attack.
A pall of gloom descended on Tejpura, which falls in Shahpura town of Jaipur Rural area, when news about Barala's death reached the village.
A large number of villagers gathered at his funeral site today to pay tributes to him. They were chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram' slogans in his honour.
Barala's 10-year-old son Ankit lit his funeral pyre.
Earlier, Barala was given the guard of honour by the CRPF. Rajasthan Assembly deputy speaker Rao Rajendra Singh, Virat Nagar MLA Phool Singh Bhinda, Sri Madhopur MLA Jhabar Singh paid floral tributes to him.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, while condoling the death of the soldier, said his contribution towards nation's security has made his family, state and the country proud.
Raje prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength for the family to bear the irreparable loss.
