Accusing BJP of failing to bring law and order in Rajasthan during its rule, former Union Minister Dr Girija Vyas today alleged that crime against women was on the extreme end in the state.
"Criminals are engaged doing all kinds of henious crimes in the BJP-ruled state and exploitation of all groups in cities including women is rising every day," Vyas who addressed the party workers and leaders said in a statement here.
"It was the extreme cruelty as a woman committed suicide in police custody in Swaropganj town of Sirohi district.. It shows police barbarism," she said, adding, Rajasthan's law and order "failed miserably" in BJP rule.
Recalling a dacoity and gang-rape of a woman in Jaipur's Chitrakoot colony, Vyas said, the criminals were not even traced in about a month. Hence the Jaipur Congress Committee decided to hold "gherao" of Police Commissionerate if the accused were not arrested in next seven days, she added.
Vyas also addressed Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee's observers appointed for upcoming civic elections in the state late next month.
She called upon the observers and party workers to get united to contest civic body polls.
In another statement PCC President Sachin Pilot criticised Raje government's decision to transfer Panchayat Samiti's executive power to Zila Parishad which he termed 'unconstitutional'.
"Raje government's decision would weaken the Panchayati Raj Institutes which were empowered under various sections of PRI act, 1994," Pilot said.
