Rajasthan: 3 farmers committed suicide in 2015, none in 2014

The Rajasthan government today said that only three farmers in the state committed suicide in 2015, while not a single such incident was reported in 2014.
Two farmers committed suicide due to cash crunch while one due to domestic circumstances in 2015, the state home department said in reply to a question raised in the Assembly.
The government also revealed that not a single farmer suicide was reported in the state in 2014.
Jogaram Patel, the BJP MLA from the Luni had put up a question in the Assembly to table the number of farmers suicide in the state and the country during 2008-2015.
In reply to the question, the department said that 796 suicides were registered in 2008, 851 in 2009, 390 in 2010, 268 in 2011, 270 in 2012, 292 in 2013, zero in 2014 and three in 2015 in Rajasthan.
Whereas in the country, 16,196 farmers committed suicide in 2008, 17,368 in 2009, 15,964 in 2010, 14,027 in 2011, 13,754 in 2012, 11,772 in 2013, 4,949 in 2014 and 7,114 in 2015.
