The Rajasthan Assembly today passed three bills, including one to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure, by a voice vote.
The Code of Criminal Procedure (Rajasthan amendment) Bill-2017 seeks to amend certain sections of the CrPC.
A proviso that the court of session may hold its sitting in any particular case at any place in the sessions division has been inserted in section 9 while the provision of filing complaint by the public servant has been simplified by amending section 195.
Other sections have also been amended for the application of technology in trial so that evidence may be taken through audio-video electronic means.
State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said in the house that after the amendments, session courts can start hearing in jails and also through video conferencing.
He said this will save manpower and will also reduce the risk of a prisoner fleeing from custody.
