Rajasthan government plans to introduce sports policy

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the work to draft the policy was on and would be completed next year in March.

Speaking at a ceremony to felicitate London Olympic medallists here today, Gehlot also announced to give Rs 50 lakh for promotion of sports at Tehsil level.

"The government is committed for the promotion of sports and has made efforts in this direction. Now the government will bring the sports policy next year," Gehlot said.

He also highlighted that the first physical education and sports university was being set up in Jhunjhunu district.

In the function, he felicitated wrestler Sushil Kumar and shooter Vijay Kumar with Rs 50 lakh (cheque) each for winning silver medals in the Olympics.

Bronze medal winning shooter Gagan Narang was awarded with a cheque of Rs 25 lakh whereas bronze medallists Saina Nehwal, M C Mary Kom and Yogeshwar Dutt were also handed over cheques.

Krishna Poonia (discus throw) and Sandeep Kumar (rowing) were also awarded with (cheque) Rs 25 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively.
