Rajasthan has a huge potential for solar energy and the state government has constituted a separate entity for better development and management of solar parks, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said today.
"We have a huge potential for solar energy and are trying our best to tap it to the fullest through a liberal solar energy policy where ample facilities are extended to investors on priority basis," Gehlot said while inaugurating a 55 MW solar energy plant at Ravra village along with Union Minister for renewable energy Farooq Abdullah.
They also laid the foundation of a solar energy park at Bharla at Baap in Phalodi near Jodhpur.
The state government has constituted a separate entity, Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company Limited, for better development and management of solar parks, Gehlot said, adding that Phalodi will have 1000 MW solar power plants very soon, which will make the region a hub of solar energy.
He said 899 companies have so far registered themselves with the government for setting up solar power projects with installed capacity of 18,476 MW all put together.
"873 of them have been sanctioned, out of which projects with an installed capacity of 484 MW have already been established and rest are in process," Gehlot said.
