Legislators in the Rajasthan Assembly on Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot urging him to increase the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) fund to Rs 5 crore from Rs 2.25 crore annually.
If their demand is fulfilled, the budget allocation on MLA LAD fund will increase to Rs 1,000 crore from Rs 450 crore annually for the 200-member House. In five years, the state government will provide Rs 5,000 crore under the MLA LAD fund.
"We have submitted our demands to the chief minister and all MLAs are united on the issue. It is up to the chief minister to take a decision," Congress chief whip Mahesh Joshi said.
Former assembly speaker and MLA Deependra Singh Shekhawat said the increased allocation will benefit people and expedite development works.
BJP legislator Rupa Ram said there is a need to increase the fund considering the inflation and to ensure that development works are completed.
