Following the directions of the Rajasthan High Court, the police today registered an FIR in an alleged case of religious conversion that preceded an inter- faith marriage.
Yesterday, while pulling up the state police over its handling of the case of related to a woman's alleged forcible conversion to Islam and marriage, the Rajasthan High Court had issued directions that an FIR be registered.
The woman's family claimed that it was an instance of 'love jihad'.
"We have registered an FIR in the case and have started the investigation in the matter on the complaint of the brother of the woman," said SHO, Pratap Nagar, Achall Singh.
On Wednesday during the hearing of a habeas corpus petition, a division bench had asked the police whether the affidavit of religious conversion of the woman was investigated.
Not satisfied with the response, the court had pulled up the police and had directed them to register a case in the matter and submit a detailed report on the next hearing.
The court slammed the police for not taking the statements of the witnesses of the 'nikah' after finding that the witnesses of nikahnama and those provided to the police were different.
