Rajasthan receives 3 per cent excess rainfall

Rajasthan has received about 3 per cent excess rainfall this monsoon so far, by recording an average of 420.3 mm since June 1 as against normal rainfall of 409.6 mm, a met official said today.
Southwest Monsoon arrived in the state on July 3, and got aggressive later in July, August and early September, the official said.
Rajasthan had recorded an average of 531.8 mm of rainfall in 2014 which was about 27 per cent more. This year the average rainfall from June 1 to September 21 was 420.3 mm as against 409.6 mm normal rainfall of 30 years, the official said.
Since there was no rains in the state for the past ten days, it appeared to be the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon, the official said, adding that the IMD in Delhi would make monsoon withdrawal announcement in a day or so.
This year, the eastern Rajasthan recorded 3 per cent of excess rainfall recording 618.6 mm as against normal rainfall of 601.3 mm, while western Rajasthan observed 2 per cent excess with 262.8 mm rainfall as against about 258 mm of normal rainfall, according to the MeT data.
As per the Irrigation Department data, 228 of 724 dams were fully filled with rain water, while 265 were partially filled and 231 unfilled.
Of the 33 districts in the state, six districts -- Churu, Srigangangar, Nagaur, Tonk, Baran, and Ajmer -- recorded the excess rainfall in the range of 20 to 59 per cent. Whereas six others -- Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Jaisalmer, Sirohi and Banswara -- fell in the category of deficient rainfall.
Twenty-one districts received normal rainfall which included Bikaner, Hanumangarh, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Pali, Jaipur and Udaipur.
Weather was mainly dry in the state in the past 24 hours, the official said.
