The state on August 9 had a rainfall deficit of 29.69 per cent. However, the situation took a u-turn two days ago when torrential rains lashed the state. The state has now received 4.89 per cent above normal rainfall, officials said.
The Rajasthan government has asked the team sent by the Centre, which was scheduled to arrive here to assess the drought situation, to postpone their visit for some time because of the heavy rains, they said.
Twenty-seven people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the state where large-scale relief work is underway to mitigate the suffering of the affected people.
The situation in Sikar district is alarming where many areas have been submerged.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has appealed to people in the affected areas to keep patience and directed officials to make sure that relief work is done in a proper manner in all the areas facing trouble due to the rainfall.
"Sikar city and Laxmangarh town are the worst affected at present where many areas have been inundated whereas the situation in Jaipur and Dausa district is under control though relief works are on in full swing," state minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Brijendra Singh Ola, told PTI today.
"2,000 people in Jaipur have been shifted to safer places after Tuesday night with the help of district administration, police, civil defence volunteers, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) and food packets are being distribution in all the affected areas and relief camps," the Minister said. MORE
