Rajasthan government today announced that cases lodged against politicians for public agitations in the state in recent years would be taken up for withdrawal on merit basis.
Replying to a question of BJP MLA Ramlal Sharma, state Home Minister G C Kataria told the Legislative Assembly that so far the BJP government has disposed of 125 cases related to political agitation in the state.
Whether it was a Congress or a BJP government, there was a legal process to withdraw cases of public interest in which politicians were booked, Kataria said, adding, they would make every effort to dispose such cases.
Raising a supplementary Question, Opposition Whip and Congress MLA Govind Singh Dotasar asked why chargesheet was not filed in 90 days in the cases of elected representatives (MLA/MPs) which were referred to state CID-CB for investigation and what action the Home Department took against false cases.
Kataria said out of 318 cases, 101 cases involving MLAs and MPs were pending with the CID-Crime Branch since 1997, but now the government would try to clear this pendency either by filing charge sheet or by disposal, Kataria said.
On an average 37 per cent of the FIRs lodged were fake, the minister said, adding the Home Department would ensure action against those who file fake complaints. However, he said, court's legal procedures cause delay in deciding such cases.
Particularly fake rape cases would taken up so that misuse of rape acts is contained, he added.
During 2013-14, there were 4,693 pending cases in the state where chargesheet has not been not filed yet, he replied on the main question by the BJP MLA. He assured that a Case Officer Scheme would be launched to clear pendency of cases.
Kataria claimed that in 2014, police had successfully resolved 90 per cent crime cases in the state.
