Raje govt insensitive towards farmers: Congress
Press Trust of India Jaipur Congress today accused the Vasundhara Raje government of being "insensitive" towards the farmers who suffered huge losses due to the recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms.
PCC chief Sachin Pilot said the compensation being offered by the government to the farmers was like "a drop in the ocean", and demanded that their entire crop loans be waived off.
He said the previous Congress government had waived off crop loans worth Rs 72,000 crore.
Despite a BJP government ruling the state and the Centre, a meagre relief Rs 9,000 per hectare of crop loss was being paid, and many of the farmers in Kota and other regions refused to accept it, Pilot claimed.
"Despite Union Finance Minster Arun Jaitley and Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan visiting the calamity-affected areas and meeting Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, no Central assistance was announced for farmers," Pilot said in a statement here.
