Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sachin Pilot today alleged that the Raje-led BJP government was "working on a plan" to cut electricity subsidy of farmers in order to "restructure debt of power companies", which would affect a large number of farmers.
"The state government in the last two years did not take any move to curb transmission and distribution losses. Huge number of irregularities in the discoms have piled up and no action was taken to make the companies online despite getting funds from the Centre," Pilot said in a statement.
"The plan of restructuring debt of power companies would add financial burden on the government and to cover the losses the state government is working on a policy which would end the subsidy given to around two lakh farmers," he alleged.
"If the state government makes such policy then it would have adverse impact on agriculture and farmers. The move would also reduce agricultural production and also discourage farmers to do farming," he said, adding, the government should focus on ways to curb transmission and distribution losses.
